Playing Career
He started playing as a schoolboy at Blackball and played in the senior grade for Blackball from 1942 to 1952. From 1944 until 1951 Bob played for the West Coast and from 1945 to 1951 for the South Island team.
Played against the touring Great Britain team in 1946 and the Australian's in 1949. Also played for West Coast against Great Britain in 1946.
Went on two tours the 1947 - 1948 tour of Great Britain and France playing 18 games including 3 tests and the second tour was to Australia in 1948 playing 3 games.
In retirement
Bob is a life member of both the West Coast Rugby League and New Zealand Rugby League.
When Bob retired from playing he become a referee from 1953 to 1960, he controlled the France vs Canterbury game in 1960.
Was West Coast selector from 1967 to 1974, New Zealand Under-19 selector in 1972. Bob was on the West Coast board of control from 1972 to 1994 and was its president from 1976 to 1982.
He was also a West Coast Under-19 selector and coach, Southern Zone Under-19 selector and managed the West Coast team from 1975 to 1981.
